Tim Mantoani, 1969-2016

Last week we lost Tim Mantoani to cancer. A talented, generous and rare part of our
photographic community is now gone.

Tim was known for his meticulous, beautiful color photography, and he left us with stunning portfolios of Cuba, sports figures, fellow photographers and countless assignments where his light touch and technique was put to good use.

But what anyone who met Tim will remember most was his thoughtful generosity.
He supported the photographic community – giving of himself, his experience and his
resources in a way that should be a model for how to interact with peers, clients, students and colleagues.

I was lucky enough to experience Tim’s spirit, first hand.  An amazing human being,
masquerading as a regular guy.

Get Moving: Motion and Video Roundtable

Have you made the move to making movies?

Now’s your chance to show off your directorial dexterity at the APA San Diego Motion and Video Roundtable. 

Send us your 5 minute (max) motion project (on any topic) and meet us on June 15th with your popcorn bowl for APA San Diego’s silver screen event. 

The most interesting and accomplished pieces will be selected and shown large, so compress to impress.

All levels of photographers and cinematographers are encouraged to join the night’s discussions.

To submit, please send a link to director@apasd.org or bring along the file the night of. We will screen as many submissions as possible.

APA | San Diego is calling for photography that represents your best work; Images that show your unique vision, creative passion, and individualistic style, titled or untitled. 30 images will be chosen for display at a one-night only benefit auction at 3rd Space on Saturday, November 7th, 2015; proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Museum of Photographic Arts. All entries will be judged by Photographer David J Carol and prizes will be awarded for the top images. All entries will be represented in the exhibition slide show on the night of the event.

APA | SD presents: Nick Nacca | Super Control Freak | August 29th, 2015

For Nick Nacca image making isn’t capturing a moment in time, its several moments combined. He’s a super control freak. Not just on set.  Later, in a dim room he builds an image from the ground up. Blending, shaping, sculpting with light is at the heart of his process that creates images that stand out in a world of clutter.  It’s not just a different approach to lighting; it’s a different way of seeing.

Join Nick & APA/SD for a hands on workshop where together we will photograph a vehicle then integrate models into the scene for a seamless composite.  Working images from the shoot will be made available to the attendees to create their own versions of the image.

This class is limited to 15 participants and includes lunch. 100% of the proceeds
go to support the San Diego chapter of American Photographic Artists.
